On 1 and 2 February 2024, the 6th edition of the FIFA Football Law Annual Review (FLAR) took place in Tokyo.
For the first time in Japan, the event brought together many top football law experts and numerous stakeholders from all around the world for discussions on the most pressing and interesting topics in football law.
Sofia Thomas, Chair of ISTA, was invited to speak on key tax issues within football player transfers. Her presentation covered key tax case law by following a fictional player through their career. From dual agent fees, gross v net contracts and dual taxation, Sofia illustrated the importance of tax law for practitioners in the football industry.
ISTA would like to take the opportunity to thank FIFA for the invitation to deliver this presentation and to the Japanese Football Association for their hospitality.
Recordings of Day 1 and Day 2 are available on the FIFA website.
